Boomers Falter in Indiana

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — The Schaumburg Boomers built a 4-0 lead but could not hold on in suffering a 6-4 defeat on the road at the hands of the Evansville Otters on Saturday night.

Chase Dawson handed the Boomers a 2-0 lead just three batters into the contest by drilling his second homer of the year over the wall in right, also bringing home Alec Craig, who led off the game with a single. The lead reached 3-0 behind an RBI double from Kokko Figueiredo in the top of the third. Evansville tied the game in the bottom of the fifth, taking advantage of four straight hits and three errors to even the score. Ethan Skender connected on a solo homer in the seventh to give the Otters the lead and an insurance run would cross in the bottom of the eighth to push the lead to 6-4.

Luis Perez started and worked six innings, allowing four runs, three earned, on nine hits. The Boomers struck out 11 times at the plate. Dawson reached 100 hits for the third time in his career by totaling two in the contest.

The Boomers (42-28) finish the weekend series with Evansville tomorrow at 12:35pm. RHP Hunter Hoopes (2-0, 4.20) is scheduled to start opposite LHP Braden Scott (1-0, 3.86).
