Boomers Swept in Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — The Schaumburg Boomers were swept in a three-game series for the first time this season as the Evansville Otters came from behind for the third consecutive game to tally a 4-2 in the finale of the weekend road series.

For the third time in the series the Boomers grabbed an early lead by scoring first. The team took advantage of a pair of errors to plate two runs in the second. Brett Milazzo recorded the first hit of the game, a single to right that was misplayed allowing Kokko Figueiredo to score the first run. Jonathan Soto drove home the second run with an opposite field single to right.

Evansville cut into the lead in the bottom of the fourth on a solo homer from Josh Broughton for their first hit and run. The Otters homered in all three games of the series. A homer from Austin Bost in the fifth tied the score. A third straight inning with a solo homer allowed the Otters to grab their first lead at 3-2 when Kona Quiggle homered to open the sixth. The lead extended to 4-2 with another single run in the seventh.

Hunter Hoopes started and produced his second consecutive quality start, working six innings on the mound and allowing the three runs on four hits with four walks and four strikeouts. The Boomers finished with just three hits but could not rally against the back end of the bullpen. Soto tallied two of the hits while Alec Craig was able to extend his on-base streak to 24 games after walking in the second.

The Boomers (42-29) are off on Monday before returning home on Tuesday to open a six-game homestand with the first if three games against the Joliet Slammers at 6:30pm. Tuesday is Blues Brothers Night at Wintrust Field. Visit boomersbaseball.com or call 847-461-3695 to secure your tickets to a game before summer is gone and ensure you don’t miss out on the fun.
