Boomers Strike Quickly in Victory

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers plated two runs in the first inning, and never trailed in a 7-2 win over Windy City at Wintrust Field on Saturday night.

The Boomers tallied 11 hits for the second straight night, this time to take the middle game of the three-game set and clinch the series victory. Schaumburg will try to complete the sweep tomorrow, and would claim the season series with the Thunderbolts with a win.

The Boomers got on the board in the opening frame, as Blake Berry hit the first of his three sacrifice flies on the night, and Kokko Figueiredo drove in a run with the first of his three singles. Alec Craig added a sac fly in the second inning, Berry added sac flies in the third and fifth innings, and Zach Huffins and Kyle Fitzgerald contributed run-scoring singles in the three-run fifth frame to close out the scoring.

Huffins had two hits on the night. Travis Holt scored twice and had a double among his two hits, and Chase Dawson scored twice with a walk and a double. Hunter Hoopes (3-1) tossed six innings of two-run ball and struck out five to earn the win.

Windy City tallied nine hits in the contest, but stranded nine in the ballgame. Micah Yonamine and Troy Viola hit solo home runs in the second and third innings respectively, but the Thunderbolts failed to score after the third inning for the second straight night.

The Boomers (44-32) will conclude the homestand on Sunday afternoon at 1:00pm with the finale against Windy City. It will be a Wintrust Family Sunday with a Special Appearance by Bluey & Bingo along with Pre-game catch on the field and Post-game autographs.
