Boomers Hold Off Lake Erie

AVON, Ohio — The Schaumburg Boomers waited through a pair of weather delays and held off a late rally to take two-of-three from the Lake Erie Crushers on the road, notching a 6-4 victory on Thursday night in Ohio.

After waiting through the delay the Boomers wasted no time in jumping ahead. Alec Craig opened the game with a single and scored when Chase Dawson blasted his third homer of the year over the wall in right-center. Tow more runs scored in the third on a sacrifice fly from Gaige Howard and a wild pitch. John Fiorenza lifted a sacrifice fly in the fourth to make the score 5-0. Kokko Figueiredo drove home a single run in the seventh with an RBI single.

The early lead was a boost for starter Luis Perez, who carried a no-hitter through 6.1 innings before Lake Erie posted two hits including a two-run homer from Jackson Pritchard to draw within 6-2. Another two-run homer in the eighth made the score 6-4 but Dylan Stutsman struck out the side in the ninth to notch his sixth save of the year and halt the momentum.

Perez struck out seven in seven innings to claim his sixth win of the year. After totaling just 13 hits in the first two games of the series, the Boomers notched 14 in the finale as every member of the lineup collected at least one. Schaumburg had runners on base in eight of the nine innings. Dawson totaled three hits in the win.

The Boomers (47-33) will continue the roadtrip tomorrow night when the team opens a three-game commuter series at the Windy City ThunderBolts with RHP Hunter Hoopes (3-1, 4.00) on the mound. The Boomers still have nine home dates left on the schedule and will return to Wintrust Field on August 22 to open a six-game homestand.
