Boomers Sign Utility Cole Smith
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – The Schaumburg Boomers have signed utility player Cole Smith for the 2026 season, presented by All About Personnel.
A native of Dubuque, Iowa, Smith joins the Boomers following a standout senior season at Northern Illinois University, where he helped lead the Huskies to a program-record 36 wins, their first Mid-American Conference Championship, and the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1972.
Smith put together one of the top offensive seasons in the MAC in 2026, batting .357 with 71 hits, 19 doubles, four triples, six home runs, 50 RBIs, and a 1.020 OPS across 49 games. He also posted a .438 on-base percentage and .583 slugging percentage while starting every game for the Huskies. His performance earned him a spot on the MAC All-Tournament Team after hitting .412 with two home runs and nine RBIs during the conference tournament.
Prior to Northern Illinois, Smith played at Bradley University and Waterloo in the Northwoods League. Across his collegiate career, he hit .308 with 204 hits, 40 doubles, 10 home runs, 124 RBIs, and 52 stolen bases, showcasing the versatility and consistency that made him a valuable contributor throughout his career.
Defensively, Smith brings the ability to play multiple positions across the diamond, giving the Boomers another versatile option heading into the second half of the season.
