PEARL, Miss. — Mississippi native Kellum Clark, who grew up less than 10 miles from Trustmark Park, blasted a three-run walk-off homer in sudden death as the Schaumburg Boomers posted an 11-8 victory over the Mississippi Mud Monsters on Friday night.

With two away and runners at second and third, Clark drove a 3-2 offering from Brayden Sanders 420 feet to dead center into the batter’s eye to cap a wild finish and set off a wild celebration. Mississippi had twice come from behind to send the game to extras.

Will Prater gave the Boomers a 1-0 lead early with an RBI single in the second inning. Mississippi plated single runs in the fourth and fifth to lead 2-1 before Schaumburg scored five times in the seventh to open a 6-2 edge. Alex Calarco tied the game with a groundout and Christian Fedko put the Boomers ahead with an RBI single. Kyle Fitzgerald singled home a run to make the score 4-2 and Cole Turney plated a pair with a single of his own. Mississippi battled back to tie the game, scoring twice in the seventh and twice in the bottom of the ninth. Headed to extras, Prater doubled home a run before crossing on a sacrifice fly from Calarco to open an 8-6 edge but Mississippi again found a way to tie the game in the bottom of the inning. Mississippi opted for defense in sudden death, setting the stage for Clark’s heroics in the first sudden death game of the year.

Derek Salata started on the mound and departed with the lead after allowing two runs in six innings while striking out six. Tom Vincent nabbed the win in relief. Schaumburg totaled 11 hits in the decision, a third win in the four games of the series. Prater, Clark, Turney, Fitzgerald and Alec Craig all finished with a pair of hits in the win. Craig reached base five times, drawing three walks as the Boomers also coaxed seven free passes.

The Boomers (38-32) will continue the six-game series on Saturday night at 6:00pm. RHP Ross Thompson (7-3, 4.54) is the scheduled starter. The team will return home from the roadtrip on August 7.
