PEARL, Miss. — The Schaumburg Boomers scored three runs in the first, but suffered a 6-4 loss to the Mississippi Mud Monsters in the finale of the six-game series, settling for wins in four of the six affairs. 

Alec Craig led off the game with a walk and Cole Smith followed with a single. Craig stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly from Kellum Clark. Banks Tolley singled with one away and Alex Calarco followed with a double to score a run. Kyle Fitzgerald plated the third run on a groundout. Mississippi’s starter, John Walsh, settled down after a leadoff walk in the second, retiring 12 straight. Cole Cook retired the first nine batters of the game for the Boomers but Mississippi touched him for four runs in the fourth and two in the sixth to lead 6-3. Kellum Clark tallied an inside-the-park homer in the eighth to bring the Boomers within 6-4. Clark, a Mississippi native, homered three times in the series. The inside-the-park homer was the second of the season for the Boomers. Schaumburg placed the tying runs on base in the ninth but could not break through.

Cook worked five innings and suffered the loss. Jack Snyder, Tom Vincent and Holland Townes all logged scoreless innings out of the bullpen to give the Boomers a chance at the comeback. Schaumburg was limited to just six hits in the game, two of which came from Clark. The team also drew four walks in the game, finishing the series with 50 free passes.

The Boomers (39-33) will continue the longest roadtrip in team history following a day off with a visit to Gateway on Tuesday night at 6:35pm.
