SAUGET, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers were trailing 6-1 entering the eighth but scored seven times, capped by a go-ahead grand slam from Kellum Clark, rallying to stun the Gateway Grizzlies on the road with an 8-7 decision on Wednesday night

Schaumburg struck first in the top of the first. Alec Craig led off the game with a double and scored on an RBI single from Anthony Calarco. Gateway would score six unanswered runs to take a 6-1 lead into the eighth. Last night the Boomers were unable to hold a 5-0 lead in the seventh, but the team returned the favor on Wednesday. Cole Turney opened the seven-run inning with a single to center. Kyle Fitzgerald followed with a walk. With one away Alex Calarco coaxed a walk to load the bases. Christian Fedko opened the scoring with an RBI single, cutting the deficit to 6-2. Alec Craig followed with a two-run single, making the score 6-4. Banks Tolley singled to load the bases and Clark, who was 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts entering the at bat, worked the count before blasting a 3-2 pitch from Claudio Galva over the wall in the left for an opposite field go-ahead grand slam. Clark has homered in four of the last five games and now owns 10 on the campaign. Gateway scored a run in the bottom of the inning but stranded the tying run at third and Holland Townes worked a 1-2-3 ninth to earn the save.

Buddie Pindel started and worked five innings in a no-decision. Kyle Moore picked up his seventh win of the season in relief with Townes collecting his third save. Tom Vincent and Jack Snyder also appeared on the hill. Schaumburg entered the eighth with just four hits but posted five in the inning including four in a row to fuel the comeback. Craig and Tolley finished with two hits apiece in the win, which saw all nine members of the lineup reach base. Schaumburg finished with nine hits and drew eight walks while overcoming 13 strikeouts. The Boomers have come from behind to win in 21 games, more than half of their total victories.

The Boomers (40-34) will end the longest roadtrip in team history with the rubber game against Gateway on Thursday night at 6:30pm. RHP Derek Salata (4-4, 4.46) will make the start for the Boomers against RHP Ty Good (5-2, 5.35). The team returns home from the nine-game roadtrip on August 7 for Marshmallow Fight Night presented by Residential Heating and Cooling. The game will also feature postgame fireworks and a drone show.
