JOLIET, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers scored three runs in the sixth and added three insurance tallies in the ninth to pull away from the Joliet Slammers and grab a 7-3 victory in the opener of a six-game roadtrip on Tuesday night.

Following two innings which saw both teams amount little offense, Joliet was able to nab a 1-0 edge in the third as the first two batters of the inning reached before a groundout plated the run. Schaumburg was able to even the game in the fifth. Kyle Fitzgerald drew a walk with one away and scored from second on a single from Alec Craig. Chase Dawson, returning before the game to begin his seventh season with the team, homered down the line in right to put the Boomers ahead in the sixth. Banks Tolley added a no-doubt two-run blast to make the score 4-1. Blake Berry hit a two-run homer for Joliet in the bottom of the inning to draw the hosts within 4-3. The game remained a one-run nail-biter until the ninth when the Boomers scored three times. Tolley recorded a two-run double and Alex Calarco lifted a sacrifice fly to provide separation. 

Buddie Pindel threw six innings to earn his eighth win of the season. Pindel allowed three runs on five hits with a walk and four strikeouts. Holland Townes threw two scoreless with two strikeouts and Caleb Riedel polished off the win with a pair of strikeouts in the ninth. Tolley finished with two hits, both for extra bases, four RBIs and a walk. Anthony Calarco also recorded two hits. Schaumburg drew 11 walks in the game and has coaxed 41 over the last four contests. Eight of the nine members of the lineup reached base.

The Boomers (44-35) continue the six-game roadtrip tomorrow night with another 6:35pm contest against Joliet. RHP Derek Salata (4-5, 4.42) is the scheduled starter.
