Boomers Win Fifth Straight

JOLIET, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers made it five consecutive victories by notching a 6-3 decision over the Joliet Slammers on the road Wednesday night.

Chase Dawson again made his presence known in his second game back with the team, handing the Boomers a 2-0 lead with a two-run double to right in the top of the fourth. Joliet responded with three in the bottom of the inning to take a momentary 3-2 lead. Jeff Nicol opened the fifth with a double and Christian Fedko followed with a walk. Kyle Fitzgerald recorded a triple to right with one away to put the Boomers ahead 4-3. Anthony Calarco followed with a sacrifice fly to score Fitzgerald and push the lead to 5-3. Calarco singled home an insurance tally in the seventh as the Boomers extended the lead to 6-3.

Derek Salata worked five innings on the mound to grab the victory and even his record at 5-5 on the season. Salata allowed three runs on four hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. The seven strikeouts matched a season high set four times previously. Aaron Glickstein twirled a scoreless inning while Kyle Moore followed with a pair of scoreless frames. Caleb Riedel needed to face the tying run in the ninth but struck out three to earn his ninth save of the season. Calarco drove home a pair in the win along with Fitzgerald and Dawson. Schaumburg finished with six hits while limiting Joliet to just five.
