JOLIET, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers took the lead in the seventh but needed to wait through a long delay in the frame to make the victory official, notching a sixth straight win by a 5-1 final over the Joliet Slammers to record a Molly Maid clean sweep of the road series on Thursday night.

Schaumburg grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first after loading the bases with one away. Kyle Fitzgerald was hit by a pitch and Anthony Calarco and Kellum Clark followed with singles to load the bases. Banks Tolley drove home the first run of the night on a fielder’s choice but the Boomers began a trend of runners left on base by stranding runners at first and third. Joliet tied the game on a solo homer from Peyton Carr in the fourth. The Boomers took the lead with four runs in the top of the seventh. Clark handed the Boomers the lead with a two-run double while Banks Tolley tallied an RBI single and the fourth run crossed on a wild pitch making the score 5-1. Before the inning could come to a close, the skies opened, causing a stoppage. The delay lasted 2:36 before the game resumed.

Ross Thompson threw six innings and earned his ninth win of the season, tying him for the league lead. Thompson allowed just one run on five hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Jack Snyder returned after the rain delay and threw two perfect innings with three strikeouts before Tom Vincent closed out the win with two strikeouts in a perfect ninth. Both teams totaled five hits on the night. Anthony Calarco and Clark both finished with two hits. The Boomers drew nine walks in the win and have walked 50 times in the last six games.

The Boomers (46-35) continue the roadtrip on Friday with a weekend visit to Kentucky to meet the Florence Y’Alls. LHP Cole Cook (7-7, 4.58) is slated to start the opener of the series. The team returns home on August 19 for a Business Day Game presented by All About Personnel in the first of a brief two-game stint at Wintrust Field.
