SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers debuted their alternate identity as the Chicago Burbs and opened the final home weekend of the regular season with a 7-4 victory over the Gateway Grizzlies on Friday night at Wintrust Field.

Schaumburg starter Buddie Pindel sat down the first seven Gateway batters in the game. The visitors finally broke through in the fourth, stringing together three consecutive hits to open a 1-0 lead. Chase Dawson singled home a pair in the bottom of the inning to put Schaumburg ahead 2-1. Gateway was able to tie the game in the fifth. Kyle Fitzgerald tallied an RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the inning to score Alec Craig and put the Burbs back in front. Dawson followed with a two-run triple, his first triple of the year, making the score 5-2. After Gateway pulled within 5-3 the Burbs scored two more in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out of reach. Craig singled home a run and Anthony Calarco lifted a sacrifice fly.

Pindel won his 10th of the year by working 5.2 innings, allowing three runs with three strikeouts. Pindel joins Ross Thompson in the 10-win club for Schaumburg as the fifth hurler in franchise history to achieve double-digit victories. Holland Townes and Caleb Riedel held the lead for Darrell Thompson, who tossed the ninth with a pair of strikeouts to tally his second save in as many appearances. The Burbs totaled nine hits, three of which came from Dawson, who drove home four. Craig walked twice on his birthday as the Burbs, who have set a league record for walks, finished with five free passes.

The Boomers (52-42) will maintain the lead in the West Division with eight regular season games left and continue the final home weekend series of the regular season on Saturday night at 6:30pm with the middle game against Gateway. The first 1,500 fans through the gates will receive a Boomers Windbreaker courtesy of Ascension Illinois.
