SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers secured a second consecutive trip to the Frontier League playoffs and a fifth in six years by toppling the Florence Y’Alls 5-3 on Thursday night in the final game of the regular season at Wintrust Field.

Schaumburg jumped ahead early in the game, something that was a trend in the series. Anthony Calarco stroked an RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the first. Four more runs would score with two outs in the second as the Boomers strung together five hits and a walk with two away. Chase Dawson singled home a run, Calarco added to his RBI total with a two-run single, and Kellum Clark also plated a run as the Boomers led 5-0. The Florence bullpen kept the Boomers off the board the rest of the way. Florence tallied a single run in the seventh inning and scored twice in the eighth, bringing the tying run to the plate. The Y’Alls brought the tying run to the plate again in the ninth but Darrell Thompson was able to close the door and earn his second save.

Buddie Pindel cruised on the mound in his team record 21st start. The righty retired 10 straight from the second into the fifth and kept the ball down consistently. Pindel worked 6.1 innings and allowed just one run on six hits, posting 11 outs on the ground while striking out three. The Frontier League All-Star retired the leadoff batter on five occasions and earned his 11th win of the season to equal the franchise record. Pindel is 8-0 at home this year. The offense finished with 10 hits in the win and also drew six walks. Alec Craig totaled three hits out of the leadoff slot. Calarco finished with a pair of hits and three RBIs. Clark also added two hits. 

The Boomers (55-44) still lead the West Division and hit the road for the final three games of the season with a visit to the Central Division Champion Washington Wild Things. RHP Derek Salata (6-6, 4.39) is scheduled to start in the 6:05pm contest.
