SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The Frontier League announced the 2023 Postseason Awards and the Schaumburg Boomers received three honors, grabbing recognition for success on and off the field with Chase Dawson earning a postseason All-Star nod, Wintrust Field winning Field of the Year for a second straight season and Executive Vice President and General Manager Michael Larson earning his third Bob Wolfe Award as the Executive of the Year.

Dawson was named as a postseason All-Star at second base. Dawson was also a mid-season All-Star. The Northwest Indiana native has posted a record setting season for the Boomers, breaking several career marks in his fourth season with the team in addition to several single season marks. Dawson has set the single season record for hits with 129, breaking a mark that held from the first season of Boomers baseball back in 2012. The 129 hits rank second in the league. Dawson also set the single season mark for stolen bases with 49, a total that ranks third in the league. The Boomers have shattered the single season mark for steals as a team this season. The fourth year member of the Boomers has also broken the single season record for runs, crossing the plate 84 times.

“We are all very excited for Chase (Dawson),” said Jamie Bennett, the only manager in team history. “He has worked very hard to be where he is and is one of those guys that continues to get better every year. It couldn’t happen to a better human and teammate and we are proud to call him a Boomer.”

Dawson’s name is littered all across the league leaders. Besides hits and stolen bases, Dawson currently ranks fifth in the league in average at .332. The left-handed hitter is also the league leader in triples with eight after setting a league record last season. Dawson is second in at bats, third in plate appearances, third in runs and has played in all but one game. The Valparaiso University product has struck out just 32 times in 438 plate appearances, fewest in the league among players that have appeared in 65 or more contests.

Wintrust Field continues to be the top playing surface in the league and gathered a second consecutive honor under the supervision of Director of Facilities Mike Tlusty. Tlusty was the first ever employee of the Boomers and works tirelessly to keep the field in pristine condition. The facility hosted 51 home games this year during the regular season in addition to countless games of other levels and outside events.

Larson joined the Boomers at the end of the 2017 season and has helped usher in a new era off the field. The team continues to break attendance records as well as become a presence in the local community. Four crowds in 2023 have been larger than the previous single game record for attendance with a high of 7,914 on August 26 against Gateway. The Boomers have seen five crowds of over 7,000 fans among the 51 home dates and 10 over 6,000 with 13 over 5,800. The large turnouts have led to the team breaking the single season record for attendance set last year. With Sunday’s home game remaining, the Boomers have drawn 226,200, an average of over 4,500 fans per game. The Boomers became the first team to draw over 200,000 in consecutive seasons since Southern Illinois in 2007-2010. The total attendance is the highest in the league since 2007 and the second highest in league history. The total attendance ranks third among all MLB Partner Leagues.

“It is an honor to be recognized again as Executive of the Year, especially in a year filled with personal changes” Larson said. “Even though the award has an individual name, it’s truly a team based award and can only happen thanks to the hard work of everyone on our staff.”
