Former Boomers Pitcher Connor Reed Named Pitching Coach

SCHAUMBURG, IL – The Schaumburg Boomers have announced the addition of Connor Reed to the 2021 coaching staff. He will serve as the team’s pitching coach.

Reed, 26, enters his first season as a professional coach after spending the 2019 season as a pitcher for the Boomers. He replaces Tony Smith, who joined the Detroit Tigers organization as a player development coach.

Prior to the 2019 season with the Boomers, Reed spent two seasons pitching for the Lake Erie Crushers (2016-2017). During his Frontier League career, he pitched 220-plus innings both as a starter and reliever. He racked up a record of 12-16 with a 4.33 ERA and 161 strikeouts.

“I am very excited to bring Connor on as our pitching coach,” said manager Jamie Bennett. “He has really progressed over the last couple of years as an instructor and has gotten a lot of positive feedback in his time at AHQ. He knows what we are trying to do here and has a great understanding of independent baseball and the players. Most importantly Connor is an extremely hard worker that is always going to do what needs to be done to make the player and the Boomers succeed.”

Reed takes over the 2019 pitching staff that recorded the lowest ERA in franchise history. That ERA of 3.65 was also third best in the Frontier League.

"I am really looking forward to the opportunity to be the pitching coach under Jamie Bennett,” said Reed. “My lone season as a player in Schaumburg was a great one, and I'm looking forward to many more seasons as pitching coach.”

Reed is the Assistant Director of Pitching & Overhead Throwing at Athletes HQ in Elgin, IL. He works with baseball and softball players at the professional and collegiate level. Reed played college baseball at Ouachita Baptist College in Arkadelphia, AR.
