Helwig & White First Additions to 2024 Roster
The Schaumburg Boomers and Manager Jamie Bennett have signed RHP’s Matt Helwig & Mitch White for the 2024 season. They are the first additions to the team for the upcoming season.
Matt Helwig comes to the Boomers after completing his collegiate career at UW-Parkside and Lewis University. The Mokena, IL native began his college career at UW-Parkside, where he appeared in 25 games, striking out 58 batters. In 2022, Helwig transferred to Lewis University in Romeoville, IL. He had a record of 4-4 with 6 saves and 73 strikeouts over 32 games in relief for the Flyers. Matt last played for the Eau Claire Express of the Northwoods League, collegiate summer wood bat league, posting an ERA of 0.61 with 24 strikeouts over 14 appearances out of the bullpen.
Mitch White arrives in Schaumburg after playing for the University of Cincinnati for his senior season. Prior to his time with the Bearcats, he attended Lansing CC and compiled a record of 6-2 with 53 strikeouts over 33 innings. Mitch would then transfer to Abilene Christian, in Abilene, TX before winding up at the University of Cincinnati. In his lone season with the Bearcats, Mitch posted a 2-1 record with 2 saves and 30 strikeouts in 21 appearances. He also played in the Northwoods League with the Traverse City Pit Spitters. In 2023, he recorded a 2-0 record with a 1.27 ERA and 5 saves.
